In the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the sierras Almijarra, Tejeda and Almaha offer stunning mountain scenery, walks and view points within the National park. Hidden white Andalucian Moorish pueblos, tapas bars and restaurants abound in the immediate area. Còmpeta, the nearest village, is full of artists and artisans and offers everything from art galleries to tapas bars and gourmet restaurants. Or why not go walking to the “lost village” of Acebuchal, wrecked by Franco in the time of the civil war, restored by a former resident to its original glory and rich historical heritage.
Another great walk is the Ruta Canillas de Aceituno – Saltillos – check it out here
Mountain biking with guides, walking with fresh packed lunches provided, or simply exploring the nearby villages – these mountains offer the very best of Andalucian life.
If it’s beaches and bars you want the nearest beach is a short drive of about fifteen minutes down the mountain at Torrox, or slightly further at twenty minutes, the traditional fishing town of Nerja offer fantastic beaches and marine activities along with chiringuitos (beach bars) and plenty of good restaurants to choose from.
